What Is Play?

The Playwork Foundation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) that was founded in January 2018.Our vision is to be a collective voice for playwork, supporting playworkers.Our mission is to promote playwork and its guiding principles. We provide opportunities for playworkers to come together, nurture dialogue, empower each other and take collective action in support of every child’s right to play.

Play is something we all think we know well and recognise but do we?! This session explores play from the perspective of the actual experts – children themselves – which may bring some surprises! This webinar will be delivered by Karen Benjamin and Helen Stephenson.

Helen Stephenson is a trustee of The Playwork Foundation and their aim is to promote playwork and its guiding principles. She graduated from Gloucestershire University in 2017 with a post graduate certificate in Professional Studies in Children's Play but has worked in the childcare and playwork sector for 20+ years as an Early years and Childcare Advisor for Devon County Council. Helen is passionate about children's right to play and is an advocate for them whenever she is delivering or writing training for the playwork sector.
