Event description

Description

We've been here once already. Long before current talk of "alternative facts", Protagoras was declaring that man is the measure of all things, and that what is true for you need not be true for me. Plato countered that this declaration trips itself up: people don't believe it, and so even by its own standards, it cannot be true. Nicholas Denyer will discuss these and some related debates. For example, if a Cretan tells you that Cretans are always liars, do you believe him?

For adults.

This event is part of the University of Cambridge's Festival of Ideas.
