Self-enclosing, suspicion, disinformation and impermeability seem to be guiding political turns in countries and institutions that used to portray themselves as the houses of cosmopolitanism, freedom and equality. It is time to rethink the ways in which we’ve been doing things, to reconsider our strategies and our tactics for collective liberation. It is time to build coalitions. João Florêncio is professor of gender studies (sex media and sex cultures) at Linköping University, Sweden, and honorary professor in languages, cultures and visual studies at the University of Exeter, where he worked between 2015 and 2023.
