About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Join Jaki Bell from PACT and the RSPB to learn about this beautiful bird and how we can help.

There are now half as many Curlews breeding in the UK as there were in the mid 1990s. They are on the path to extinction here as a breeding bird, unless there’s urgent action to help them. In this talk, we’ll delve into the life of this iconic bird and hear about their current situation – what’s causing their decline, and what’s being done to stabilise and grow their populations.

We’ll hear about the work of volunteers across Cumbria, including the new Curlews of Eden group, as well as what's happening nationally.

Jaki Bell spent two years as a project coordinator on the RSPB’s Curlew LIFE project. She was also a volunteer at the Hadrian’s Wall project area for two breeding seasons, carrying out monitoring of Curlews and other birds. With the project drawing to a close at the end of 2024, Jaki was keen to continue helping these struggling birds in her corner of Cumbria and set up the Curlews of Eden group in spring 2025.

Doors will open at 6:45pm for a 7pm start.
