When Learning Goes Wrong (Parent + Child Workshop | Ages 7–10)

The Willow CentreChelmsford, England
Tuesday, Jan 27, 2026 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm GMT
Overview

A parent + child workshop (ages 7–10) helping children cope with mistakes, frustration and learning when things go wrong.

WHO THIS IS FOR

This workshop is for parents and their children aged 7–10 who:

  • get upset or shut down when things go wrong
  • give up quickly or say “I can’t”
  • avoid difficult or unfamiliar tasks
  • rely heavily on adult help to get started or continue

You attend together.

WHAT THIS WORKSHOP IS ABOUT

When learning doesn’t go smoothly, many children:

  • panic
  • freeze
  • rush
  • or give up altogether

This workshop helps children experience mistakes safely, and helps parents understand how to respond in those moments — at home and during learning.

We focus on helping children:

  • handle mistakes without emotional overload
  • stay calm when something feels difficult
  • try again without pressure
  • begin to plan their approach instead of reacting
  • build independence, perseverance and grit over time

This is not a lecture.
It’s practical, hands-on, and age-appropriate.

WHAT CHILDREN WILL DO

  • Take part in guided activities designed to make mistakes safely
  • Try challenges, pause, adjust and try again
  • Practise staying calm and focused when things feel difficult

WHAT PARENTS WILL LEARN

  • When to step back (and when not to)
  • What language supports confidence and independence
  • How small habits and planning help children keep going

WHAT YOU’LL TAKE HOME

  • Simple parent scripts and child templates
  • Clear rules to support independent work at home
  • Optional invitation to a free abacus trial session (separate from this workshop)

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • This is a small group workshop (up to 10–12 children)
  • Activities are structured and guided
  • No pressure, no testing, no judgement
