How to help clients when the protocol looks right, the herbs are well chosen, the client is compliant, and yet progress has stalled?
What do you do when the protocol looks right, the herbs are well chosen, the client is compliant, and yet progress has stalled?
Complex hormonal and autoimmune cases rarely behave in a neat, predictable way. A client may present with fatigue, digestive dysfunction, histamine reactions, poor sleep, hormonal symptoms, inflammation and chronic stress all at once. In these cases, simply adding another supplement, another “hormone balancing” herb or another immune protocol may not be enough.
This workshop invites practitioners to look beyond diagnosis-led prescribing and explore the deeper physiological terrain that may be preventing progress.
We will look at the often-overlooked relationships between the gut, liver, immune system, hormones, histamine and nervous system regulation, and how these interconnected systems can influence the way a client responds to treatment.
We will explore questions such as: What is the body struggling to regulate? What is driving reactivity? Is the client depleted, overstimulated or simply being pushed too hard therapeutically? And does the body need more intervention, or a completely different strategy?
The session will also explore why some clients need stimulation and mobilisation, while others need nourishment, repair and nervous system support before stronger interventions can be effective.
Through practical case examples, we will examine situations where treatment had plateaued and how changing the therapeutic priority, sometimes by simplifying rather than intensifying the protocol, helped move the case forward.
This is a workshop about clinical reasoning, sequencing and understanding the person behind the diagnosis.
What the participants will learn
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of:
- Why hormonal protocols may fail when liver function, gut health, inflammation, nutrient status and nervous system regulation are not addressed
- How to think about autoimmunity through the lens of immune tolerance, barrier integrity, inflammation and tissue repair rather than simply “immune overactivity”
- The relationship between histamine, mast cells, oestrogen and chronic stress, and how these patterns can overlap clinically
- How to recognise when a client may need nourishing and restorative herbs rather than stimulating or strongly corrective interventions
- Why chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation can affect digestion, immunity, endocrine function, inflammation and treatment response
- How to identify the physiological priority in complex cases rather than treating every abnormality at once
- When simplifying, changing or re-sequencing a protocol may be more effective than adding more remedies
- How to apply this way of thinking to real clinical cases where progress has plateaued
The aim is to help practitioners move away from rigid protocol-based thinking and develop greater confidence in adapting treatment to the individual physiological state of the client.
