Why has UK life expectancy stopped improving?

Dr Mark Green, University of LiverpoolOver the last 120 years, the UK has witnessed annual improvements in health. In 2015 this changed. Life expectancy improvements began to stall at first and now are showing signs of declining. Indeed they have been declining in deprived communities in the past couple of years. Coupled with increasing infant mortality rates, the UK sits at a cross-roads of population health that it has not faced in modern times. The talk will consider the potential explanations for these recent trends including an ageing population, winter flu epidemics, the materialisation of trends in obesity and alcohol, and austerity.
