Why We Write: Brighton, why do you write?

Why We Write: Brighton, why do you write?

Overview

Join us in Brighton to share your story and discover what drives others to write!

Calling Sussex-based Writers!

Join us in the main room in Brighton Friends Meeting House to explore what motivates you, connect with other writers, and hear from our guest author about what powers their creative life (more news to come shortly).

There will also be an opportunity for a short writing exercise and to share your work with the room. Open to any writer working across any genre or form at any stage of your writing journey, come with a pen, a notebook and your imagination.

Free tickets are available to writers who otherwise would not be able to attend.

Please let us know if you have any accessibility requirements.

We can't wait to hear why you write.

Agenda:

Connect, Learn, Share

1. Connecting: We believe that writers who know each other learn more. In this part of the evening, we actively facilitate a conversation between attendees. (This bit can be loud – in a good way.)

2. Hot Seat: With a speaker or a panel, we explore a topic/theme and promote sharing of expertise and knowledge among the group.

3. Readings: Attendees share their work aloud. Listening to each other’s writing and offering feedback (if requested) informs our craft.

Real Writers Circle is a dedicated collective of writers who give and receive support, insights and advice as we improve our writing craft – for publication or otherwise. Circle members are un/published authors across any genre or form. The group is open to anyone who is intentional about their writing and wants to learn how to hone their craft.

Why We Write Project

Our Arts Council England-funded project Why We Write takes our workshop format to five locations, including Brent, Brighton, Folkestone, Lewisham and York. Participants will be invited to submit their work for inclusion in a Showcase in June. More details to follow at the workshop. And writers interested in establishing a Circle in their location can sign up for a free Facilitator Session in which we train you how to host an event following our unique format.
