Pendle Social Cinema brings you a day of film and entertainment celebrating the wide-open spaces we have enjoyed over these past few  months

With options for exploring being limited, we've all had to look at our surroundings in a different way; appreciating the parks, walks, and public spaces close to home as the places we can meet close family and friends to maintain our social relationships.Through the day we’ll be looking at how we have re-connected with the landscape, and what challenges and inspiration this has invited into our lives, with films covering all manner of adventures, a pop up talk show (on Zoom, of course) where we open up the floor to you to discuss the discoveries and challenges we’ve all made over the last few months, and our ever-popular film quiz.Stay all day or drop in when you can!

<h1>PROGRAMME</h1> 2:00 PM: WELCOME 2.15 PM TO 3.15 PM: A COLLECTION OF SHORT FILMSThe best adventure films, in my view, show how wide open spaces can inspire people and capture the full and honest emotional experience of their journey as well as showing the beauty of a wild landscape.These short films drawn from the Bannf film festival library capture the whole range of feelings of the participants who are often women pushing their boundaries in the outdoors. We’ll see how a skier reframes the roof tops of ski resort into a wide-open space, a woman filming her solo kayak journey in the Himalayas and a magical day skiing in the Artic. We also see how the mountains of Morocco inspired an athlete to run huge distances and succeed in the world of ultra-running, how frozen lakes and fiords led to the sport of Nordic skating. A climbing film showing what’s it’s really like to equip and free climb a huge rock face and finally a short film from the two women who were so impassioned by wild swimming that they formed the Outdoor Swimming Society in the UK.Simon- Pendle Social Cinema.GOOD MORNING (2018, 4 MIN), DIRECTED BY: MAXIME MOULIN, ANTOINE FRIOUX &amp; RICHARD PERMIN. Every day, skier Richard Permin falls into his mundane morning routine. Right after getting out of bed, he clicks on his skis and rides down the snow-covered rooftops of Avoriaz.THE LADAKH PROJECT (2019, 13 MIN), ATHLETE AND DIRECTOR: NOURIA NEWMAN ADDITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY: ALI BHARMA. Seven days, three rivers, one woman. This is the story of Nouria Newman’s solo kayak adventure in the Indian Himalaya.CIRCLE OF THE SUN (2019, 5 MIN), PRODUCED BY LENA STOFFEL AND INIGO GRASSET, FILMED BY INIGO GRASSET. Steep mountains, the ocean, the sun, and the aurora borealis. One rotation of the sun high in the Arctic on skis equals one day of magic.AZIZA (2018, 6 MIN), DIRECTORS: COLDHOUSE &amp; PERTEX. Set in the streets of Bou Tharar and the wide, craggy valleys of the lower Atlas mountains, Aziza is the story of a young woman who has thrived in the world of ultra-running and how she has become a role model for other up-and-coming athletes in Morocco.A NORDIC SKATER (2018, 5 MIN), DIRECTED, SHOT AND EDITED BY PAULIUS NEVERBICKAS. A Nordic Skater is the very first film about this little known sport. It features Per Sollerman, a photographer who has been skating on frozen lakes and fjords for the past 10 years. During 6 captivating minutes, the viewer is transported to the region of Oslo to have a peek at a story of a man who uses every sense he has to travel on thin ice.VALLEY OF THE MOON (2018, 21 MIN), DIRECTED, SHOT AND EDITED BY PAULIUS NEVERBICKAS. Valley of the Moon explores the importance of climbing as a way to cross-cultural barriers, build friendship and chase adventure in one of the most breath-taking regions of the earth.CHASING THE SUBLIME (2018, 6 MIN), DIRECTOR: AMANDA BLUGLASS . Why do we put ourselves into the path of discomfort and risk? What drives us to get too cold and too tired, to battle with fear, in the name of adventure? Follow the originators of The Outdoor Swimming Society, ‘swim twins’ Kate Rew and Kari Furre, in this hauntingly beautiful glimpse at the physicality of UK cold water swimming, as two friends set out to chase the sublime.3:15PM - 3:30PM: BREAK MY BIG WHITE THIGHS &amp; ME (2017, 25MINS), DIRECTOR: HANNAH MAIA. My Big White Thighs &amp; Me encourages us all to turn down the volume on the demands of the world and to celebrate the quiet heroism of female life and it’s body. A story about womanhood, miscarriage, healing, loving your own skin &amp; freezing your bum off in cold water. My Big White Thighs &amp; Me is Hannah’s personal story of how she rebalanced her life and began to appreciate the small things by dipping her feet and taking the plunge.4:00pm - 5:00pm: TALKING SOCIETY 5:00PM – 5:30PM: BREAK 5:30pm - 7:00pm : QUIZ Join us for our ever-popular film quiz where you can test your movie knowledge whilst eating your tea or sharing some snacks (brain food needed for this one!)SOCIAL 7:00pm – 7:30pmPEANUT BUTTER FALCON (12A, 2019, 1HR 37 MINS) DIRECTORS: TYLER NILSON, MICHAEL SCHWARTZ. Chosen for its sense of adventure and for daring to dream our closing film is Peanut Butter Falcon. After setting fire to some rival fishermen’s gear, loner Tyler (Shia LaBeouf) escapes by boat down the North Carolina coast. His getaway is jeopardised however when he discovers Zak (Zack Gottsagen) — a young man with Down’s syndrome — stowing away on his vessel with hopes of running away to wrestling school.WIDE OPEN SPACES FINISHES AT 10:00 PM
