This one day workshop delivered by Faith Ansley will give you confidence to use field guides to recognise different plant families.

About this event

This workshop is suitable for anyone who can tell a buttercup from a daisy. After being introduced to some basic terms and concepts, participants will be shown how they can place a given plant into its correct family. Only then will they try to identify it as a particular species.

You will be given advice on how to choose and use a field guide, and how to follow simple keys. All the work will be hands-on, with fresh material indoors and growing plants outdoors, throughout the day.

Participants will receive a copy of Faith's Wildflower Families and Flowers in the Field guide book (rrp £6.99) which they can take home with them.

Instructor - Faith Anstey has been running workshops for the BSBI for seven years in plant ID for beginners and improvers. In connection with these, she has produced several small books on plant families, grasses, sedges etc. These can be used with the appropriate field guide to make the identification of common species quicker and easier than by traditional methods.

What to bring - Please bring a packed lunch, refreshments will be available. We will be outside for parts of the day so please check the weather forecast and come prepared for the weather. We will be using the wildlife garden at Balallan House which has long grass and uneven grounds.

Venue - TCV Scotland office, Balallan House, 24 Allan Park, Stirling, FK8 2QG. Parking is available at the rear of the building although spaces are limited and can't be reserved.

Experience Level - No experience required.

Cost - £55.00 (plus Eventbrite booking fees)

Terms & Conditions - The full fee is payable for cancellations within 7 days of event.
