Wildlife Drawing

Established in 1905, the Royal Society of Sculptors is the oldest and largest organisation dedicated to sculpture in the UK. You can experience sculpture/3D art through exhibitions as well as our learning and outreach programmes, both online and at our galleries in London's South Kensington.

Meet meerkats, hedgehogs, rabbits and sugar gliders in a drawing class with a difference. You’ll learn about these lively animals and their habitats from their expert handlers before having a go at sketching them.
We will be meeting and sketching mammals that move in different ways, with species including meerkats, rabbits, pygmy hedgehogs and sugar gliders. Meerkats are social animals native to Central Africa, and known for their ability to stand on their hind legs to search for danger. We all know that rabbits hop – but they also use their ears and tails to communicate. Pygmy Hedgehogs are highly energetic nocturnal mammals that can cover miles in one night whilst foraging for food – and their legs are surprisingly long! Sugar Gliders are tree-dwelling marsupials from the Australian rainforests that defy gravity to hang, jump and “fly” through the trees. We will be introduced to these magnificent mammals with a detailed talk from our expert animal handlers and learn about their anatomy, unique characteristics and how they’ve evolved to adapt to their habitats. We will also be discussing the animals welfare and conservation issues affecting these species.
The drawing class is open to families of all abilities, from beginners to advanced. Children aged 8 and above are welcome if accompanied by an adult taking part in the class. All drawing materials are supplied, including paper and drawing boards, but please feel free to bring any other specific media you might like to use. Drawing tips and guidance will be provided throughout the session. The aim of these drawing classes is to inspire a sense of appreciation and understanding for the animals and their conservation in the wider world.

Wild Life Drawing is a drawing class with a difference. Instead of human life models, our subjects are real animals. The classes intend to inspire a sense of appreciation and understanding for animals and conservation issues affecting them around the globe. Education is a primary focus, so as well as drawing the animals, the group learns about their habitat and diet, their lives in the wild and any conservation or animal welfare issues affecting that species.
Wild Life Drawing works only with the finest animal sanctuaries, charities and small selection of trusted animal handlers to put on these events. All the animals that attend the sessions are happy around humans, comfortable in different environments and are always accompanied by expert handlers – their welfare is our highest priority. Wild Life Drawing has worked to raise awareness and donations for charities including the RSPB, the Bat Conservation Trust, Battersea Dogs Home and the Sea Life Trust.
Wild Life Drawing was founded in 2014 by Jennie Webber, a London-based artist and animal lover. The drawing classes intend to reconnect those living in cities with the wonder of nature through creativity, in the hope that it will encourage more people to protect our planet and it's animals.
