Winter pruning
This course will cover basic pruning principles and practice on pip fruit trees (apples and pears). We will cover:
- How to 'read' the health of a tree
- Using the right tools
- Identifying and removing dead, damaged and disease wood
- Making heading cuts and thinning cuts to influence the shape, health and productivity of a tree
What to bring
If you have them, please bring along a sharp pair of secateurs, loppers, a pruning saw and a pair of rubber grip gardening gloves. Tools and gloves will be provided if you don’t have your own.
Remember to wear clothes and footwear appropriate for the weather and mud!
What we'll provide
Participants will each receive a copy of Chloe Ward's excellent pruning guide "for real people with imperfect trees".
