Winter Waders Walk

Winter Waders Walk

Overview

The (almost) annual winter waders walk led by Dr Alison Barker from Southbourne Environment Group from Prinsted to Nutbourne Marsh.

Circular guided birdwatching walk with Southbourne Environment Group round Chichester Harbour from Prinsted to Nutbourne Marshes led by local naturalist and ecologist Alison Barker.

Chichester Harbour National Landscape is one of the most important wildlife sites in Britain and a mecca for overwintering wading birds, ducks and geese. Come for a circular guided Wildlife Walk with Southbourne Environment Group round part of the Harbour from Prinsted to Thorney Deeps looking for Winter Waders and Wildfowl. We will walk round the sea wall path from Prinsted to the SSSI at Nutbourne Marsh and we should see lots of waders and and winter ducks in the creeks and on the saltmarsh. We will be on a half- tide with birds gathered close inshore and plenty to see. Depending on the time and tide we might return on the same route or take the inland return route to see what's about on the marsh and fields.

Families welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult. Well-behaved dogs on leads are allowed but may get bored as we will be quite slow in places; please contact the organiser to discuss further! It can be very muddy, so wear good footwear and be prepared for cold or wet weather. Binoculars will be useful if you have them. Bring a drink with you as there are no facilities on the route. The route is just over 2.5 miles long and will take about 2 hours allowing for lots of stops to look at wildlife. You can cut it short if you prefer, just let us know on the day.

Membership of Southbourne Environment Group (SEG) is not necessary although if you are local, SEG is free to join and holds a variety of talks, events and gardening sessions you can join in with. New members welcome; contact us at southbourneenvironmentgroup@gmail.com.
