Winter's Depths - A Sound Meditation for Solstice Season.
Imagine candle light, deep sound & the sacred smoke of frankincense, myrrh and pine spruce resin…
Enter The Sound Apothecary for a night in the limina realms of aromatic incense & therapeutic/ psychedelic sound in the peak of darkness as we lead into winter solstice, the longest night of the year and astronomical start of Winter.
Corresponding to the water element, winter evokes a natural urge to retreat and this evening is composed to bring stillness and honour the natural cycle of death and rebirth…
We will be exploring the mythology and history of Mistletoe, a plant held sacred for its medicinal & protective properties from the ancient Greek physicians Dioscorides and Hippocrates to the Celtic Druid priests and sages of Chinese medicine. In Ancient Greece it was considered a gateway from the physical to non physical and liminal realms, a messenger of the underworld and dreamlands...
We will drink a warming infusion of Mistletoe and Fir tree honey to carry us into drum meditation composed to entrain the mind into an altered state, connecting with the archetypal wisdom of the Hermit and celestial tarot cards associated with the winter solstice followed by dreamy, hypnotic sequences of pure quartz crystal singing bowls and monochord.
Lighting and aroma strongly influence and have a soothing effect on the nervous system. Incense resins have been burned in ritual for centuries for their psychoactive and mind relaxing properties. Aroma has a strong effect on the brains olfactory nerve and limbic system, which are associated with creativity, emotions and memory.
If you enjoy candlelight, singing bowls, drum journeying and incense this one is for you....
Our venue will be the crystal haven of Rock Body Soul in Norman Road, St Leonard's.
