WISERD TCB: Visual Research Methods

The Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research and Data (WISERD) is a national, interdisciplinary, social science research institute. We have been designated by the Welsh Government as a national research centre. Using innovative approaches, our research spans the fields of economics, sociology, geography and political science.We are a collaborative venture between the universities of Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff, South Wales and Swansea – working together to improve the quality and quantity of social science research in Wales and beyond. Our research effects change by influencing the development of policy and practice across a range of sectors.-------Mae Sefydliad Ymchwil Gymdeithasol ac Economaidd a Data Cymru (WISERD) yn sefydliad ymchwil gwyddorau cymdeithasol rhyngddisgyblaethol cenedlaethol. Rydym wedi ein dynodi gan Lywodraeth Cymru’n ganolfan ymchwil genedlaethol. Gan ddefnyddio dulliau arloesol, mae ein hymchwil yn cwmpasu economeg, cymdeithaseg, daearyddiaeth a gwyddoniaeth wleidyddol.Rydym yn gydfenter rhwng prifysgolion Aberystwyth, Bangor, Caerdydd, De Cymru ac Abertawe - yn cydweithio i wella safon a maint ymchwil y gwyddorau cymdeithasol yng Nghymru a thu hwnt. Mae ein hymchwil yn effeithio ar newid drwy ddylanwadu ar ddatblygiad polisi ac arfer ar draws ystod o sectorau.

Gweithdy Dulliau Ymchwil Gweledol

Mae delweddau gweledol wedi dod i fod yn hollbresennol yn ein diwylliant cyfoes ac ar yr un pryd gwelwyd symudiad tuag at ddefnyddio methodolegau creadigol mewn ymchwil gymdeithasol. Bydd y gweithdy hwn yn edrych ar y ddelwedd weledol mewn ffurfiau cyfryngol a’r modd y’i defnyddir ar gyfer ymchwil ansoddol a lledaenu gwybodaeth. Byddwn yn ystyried y ffyrdd y caiff delweddau eu darllen a’u creu, a’r goblygiadau moesegol wrth ymchwilio i’r gweledol. Byddwn yn edrych ar ddiwylliant gweledol fel arf grymus sy’n priodoli hunaniaethau penodol i unigolion; bydd y gweithdy hefyd yn ystyried sut y mae hyn yn creu anghydraddoldebau a’r goblygiadau seico-gymdeithasol. Bydd y deunydd a gyflwynir yn egluro’r dadleuon cyfredol ym maes astudiaethau gweledol, cymdeithasol a diwylliannol ac yn ystyried potensial dulliau gweledol ar gyfer ymarfer cyfranogol a chydweithredol. Bydd gweithgareddau’r gweithdy yn gyfle i chi roi cynnig ar dechnegau arloesol ar gyfer cynhyrchu data ac i ystyried pa mor ddefnyddiol yw dulliau gweledol. Bydd y gweithdy yn gyfle i chi:

WISERD TCB: Visual Research Methods

This one day event for researchers is led by <A HREF="https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/people/view/38119-mannay-dawn" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Dawn Mannay</A>, Cardiff University will explore the visual image in mediated forms and its use as a tool of qualitative inquiry and dissemination.
Visual images have become ubiquitous in contemporary culture and at the same time there has been a move towards creative methodologies in social research. There will be an engagement with the ways in which images are read and created, and the ethical implications of researching the visual. Visual culture will be explored as a powerful tool that acts to ascribe particular identities to individuals; and the workshop will examine the ways in which this creates inequalities and psychosocial consequences. 
The presentation of the material will set out current debates in visual, social and cultural studies and explore the potential of visual methods as tools of participatory and collaborative practice. The workshop activities invite you to try out some innovative techniques of data generation and interrogate the usefulness of visual approaches. The workshop will provide the opportunity for delegates to;
