WO-MAN-ITY 2016

The Young Women's Music Project (YWMP) offers free workshops for women aged 14-21 that provide an inclusive and supportive space for young women to make music together, learn new skills, express themselves, and grow in confidence. The projects help young people to challenge issues affecting them in a creative and productive way, such as class, race, sexuality, gender, mental health, and consent. YWMP is a trans inclusive organisation, and in our definition of ‘women’ include all who self-identify partially or wholly as a woman or transfeminine.

WO-MAN-ITY returns for a third year! Join us for YWMP’s unique day-festival aimed at exploring gender-based issues relevant to Oxfordshire's young people, and arming them with the tools to overcome them.

Kilrush to Oxford
Zahra will be interviewing her mum about women’s lives in Southern Ireland in the 1950s to her migration to England, covering topics such as poverty, discrimination sexual violence, pregnancy and raising children, how women struggled but supported each other through these issues.

Unpacking Male Privilege
Although the concept of male privilege is a few decades old, many of those in society are unaware or unprepared to confront the reality. This talk will discuss the concept of male privilege and how can men contribute to gender causes in spite of male privilege.

I.M. Khalifa a poet and writer, uses poetry and positive psychology to explore the concept of identity in a world that constantly challenges individuality.

The Radical possibilities of Pleasure: In an age of instant gratification. 
How can we address the rule of pornography, fight its dehumanizing effects and reclaim the power and role of intimacy in our lives.

The internet, final frontier?
This talk will explore reactions to pro-feminist posts on social media from a male and female perspective and discuss whether social media is aiding or hindering awareness and the ability to identify discrimination. 
Hannah Bruce
Breaking down the walls: exploring our differences through expression in art. 
This talk addresses how art can help break down stereotypes and aid understanding in relation to Gender and Sexuality. 
Oxford Against Cutting
Oxford Against Cutting is a rights-based group working to help prevent female genital mutilation (FGM) of girls and women living in Oxfordshire. Their speaker will talk about how young people can tackle this harmful cultural practice.

How you gonna win, if you ain’t right within?
Self-care and it links to spirituality and ones sense of self are neglected in the organising of social justice movements As womanists we believe taking care of the psyche and having faith has been an instrumental tool in the survival of people of colour, especially women.
"How you gonna win, if you ain’t right within?" is a self-care workshop that blends the slow, mindful movements of yoga with the awareness of mind, body and breath connection of meditation. The aim is to provide a foundation of therapeutic healing that participants can use for their physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
This workshop will provide a space to reflect on:
- Why self–care is important
- The different forms self–care can take – including practical examples 
- The challenges that get in the way of self–care
This workshop is open to all genders. We hope to create an inclusive environment regardless of sexual orientation, disability, political documentation or past experience of domestic abuse. The intent is to use trauma-sensitive yoga to help participants build solidarity, restore self value and ease tension stored in the body.
