What is the Women and Sculpture Walk in Camden?

Our walk is a fundraiser for the charity Women + Health. It builds on Art UK's thought-provoking exercise of sculptures found within the country’s public realm— it discovered that less than one in five of those commemorating real-life people were dedicated to women. The 9 mile walk will take participants to 47 sculptures (40 sculptures for the 6 mile walk and 25 sculptures for the 3 mile walk) within Camden that commemorate and depict women (including women on their own or with other people, both mythical and historical figures), and also notable works by women sculptors. Our walk aims to shine a light on art celebrating inspirational women, and some by women.

Where will the walk begin? The walk will begin near Kings Cross Station. Further details will be given upon ticket registration (which is free).

When? Saturday, 8 June at meeting point, for a 1:00pm departure.

Entry Cost There is no entry cost.

Fundraising Target

The fundraising target for this event is £50+ per participant and the deadline for donations is Saturday 6th July. This money will go directly towards funding our vital services. You can find out more about these services and Women + Health below.

We will provide fundraising support to make sure that you achieve your goal. Once you've received a free registration ticket, you will be sent a document with participant information which will include how to create your own fundraising page on JustGiving.

What’s involved?

Please arrive by 1:00pm at the latest at the designated meet-up location (details provided on sign-up). The walk will go ahead rain or shine. This is a self-guided walk – route instructions and insightful information on the sculptures will be provided in digital, paper and audio form. Whilst we will suggest some routes, participants are welcome to devise their own walks to suit their own abilities and timeframes as well.

The walk will finish at the Women + Health Centre in Camden Town where there will be refreshments from 3 – 6pm. (With the exception of support dogs, sorry, no dogs please).

Who can take part?

We welcome anyone of any gender or age (including children in pushchairs) to participate in the event. Contact Women + Health if you have any accessibility needs.

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes". - Marcel Proust

Gemma Tighe, Director at Women + Health said:

“To carry on providing our essential services, Women + Health urgently needs support so we can continue to meet the needs of women and families, especially those who have experienced hardship due to the Cost of Living Crisis.

People can show their support for the centre and those who rely on our vital services and have an enjoyable and unusual afternoon.”

We hope you will find the Women + Health Sculpture Walk enlightening and enjoyable.

Organized by

We are a Camden based registered charity, proud to celebrate over 35 years of service to women and their families who want to get healthy and change their lives for the better.

Our centre in Carol Street, NW1 is a safe and contemporary space where women come to heal, gather their strength, and to find support and information about health related issues.

The women who use our services face many daily challenges: chronic health issues, mental health problems, learning difficulties, extreme poverty, lack of access to good education and bad housing. They may be single mothers, women who have experienced domestic violence and rape. They may be caring for aging or disabled loved ones. This is what one recent client (and survivor of domestic abuse) said about the centre:

"This service, I can only describe it as having been given ‘wings’ that lifted me as I slowly tried to learn to live again. I don’t want any women to experience what I did, but if they do, I really hope there is a Women + Health out there for them."

Last year over 800 clients between them received over 5,000 interventions: counselling, life coaching, body therapies, yoga groups, free GP service, as well as information and signposting.
