Women in Classics: Past, Present and Future. WCC UK Launch Event
Mon 11 April 2016, 10:00 – 17:30 BST
The Women’s Classical Committee UK is pleased to announce its launch event “Past, Present and Future” on Monday 11th April 2016 at the Institute of Classical Studies, London.
The launch event seeks to highlight current feminist and gender-informed research in Classical studies, and to consult women* in Classics** in the UK about how the WCC can best support them in the years to come given the issues they face. During the day, discussions will take place around issues facing women in Classics - including casualisation, mental health, disability, parenthood, implicit bias, and intersectional discrimination - and the future of feminist scholarship within Classics. People of any gender expression or identity who support the WCC's aims are welcome to attend this event.
Interested participants may register as participating in person for the whole day, the morning only (9:30am to 12:30pm) or the afternoon only (1:30pm to 5pm). You may also register as an online participant who will take part in the discussions live through Twitter. Registration, lunch and tea/coffee will be free, but in-person spaces are limited, so please sign up as soon as possible if you wish to attend. Registration as an online participant will be open up to the event itself.
Any other queries about the launch event or the WCC should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
*By ‘women’ we include all those who self-define as women, including (if they wish) those with complex gender identities which include ‘woman’, and those who experience oppression as women.
** By ‘classics’ we understand the study of the ancient Mediterranean world and its reception, including but not limited to scholarship by students and post-holders in academic departments of Classics and Ancient History.
