Are you ready to delve into the world of the Rust programming language? 🦀 Join us virtually for the first of our Lunch and Learn series, where we'll explore the fundamentals and exciting possibilities of Rust.

In this introductory online talk, we’ll explore one of Rust’s powerful features: traits. Traits are a fundamental aspect of Rust’s type system, enabling polymorphism and code reuse in a safe and efficient manner.

Designed for beginners, this session starts with an introduction to the concept of traits, explaining what they are and why they are essential for Rust programming. We will delve into the syntax of defining and implementing traits, with examples to illustrate how traits allow different types to share common behaviours.

Throughout the talk, we will discuss practical examples and common use cases for traits in Rust, such as enhancing modularity and code clarity. By the end of this session, attendees will have a solid understanding of how to effectively use traits in their Rust projects, paving the way for more advanced topics in Rust programming.

Following the talk we'll have a live Q&A where we'll hear from the audience, chat about why Rust is gaining popularity among developers for its performance, safety, and concurrency features.

What we're about

Welcome to Women in Rust! We're building a vibrant community where women can come together to learn about, and build our skills in Rust 🦀.

Rust is on a trajectory to revolutionise software development with its unique combination of memory safety, performance, and productivity gains, so whether you're a seasoned Rustacean or just starting your journey, we look forward to you joining us!

Our meetup group is all about fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where women can connect, collaborate, and grow their skills in Rust. Whether you're interested in web development, systems programming, or diving into the world of embedded devices, there's something here for everyone.

Our regular London meetups are hosted in the heart of London, just above Oxford Circus. They're hybrid, so do join if you're based internationally too, or aren't able to make it to the in-person events! We'll alternate between evening meetups and learn at lunch sessions.
