Women's Working Lives

The Regency Town HouseHove, England
Saturday, Mar 14, 2026 from 2 pm to 4 pm GMT
Overview

An absorbing and insightful free talk about women in Brighton & Hove since the 1800s - part of Women's History Month

Be inspired by the women from all walks of life who helped create our city

The free talk is based on detailed research by Brighton & Hove's Women's History Group, a local organisation that aims to challenge sexism and prejudice by raising awareness of women's contribution to the history of Sussex, especially in Brighton & Hove.

The group's latest publication Women of Brighton and Hove – An Anthology-Volume 2 will also be on sale.

There will be plenty of time to share your stories, ask questions and discover how you can support the work of the Women's History Group.

Refreshments will be provided by The Regency Town House volunteers who are known for their excellent cakes and reasonable prices. One recent visitor described the pop-up tea room as 'the best in town'.
All proceeds go towards the maintenance of the 200-year-old Grade 1 listed building that is being developed as a museum and heritage centre.

Access
The front door is accessed by three stone steps. A ramp can be deployed to assist wheelchair users, but it would be helpful if you could alert us beforehand if you need to use.
There is level access to the ground floor dining room where the talk will be held. The toilet is also on this floor, with level access, but unfortunatedly it is not large enough to accommodate a wheelchair.
