Woodcut with chine collé workshop
Learn how to make a woodcut print with chine collé in a peaceful garden studio
What to expect:
During this workshop you will learn how to make a one-colour woodcut print based either on your own design (the wood is 16cm x 11cm ) or one of the examples provided. You will use oil-based printing inks, and high-quality printmaking papers. We will be using a flat-bed printing press, as well as learning how to print by hand.
You will also be taught how to incorporate areas of colour into your print with a technique called chine collé - a process that involves collaging with thin coloured papers, which are usually put through the press with the woodcut plate to press it down into the paper.
Tea and coffee will be provided, but please bring your own packed lunch.
The workshop is run from the tutors garden studio - a light and spacious workshop with meadow views.
The tutor, Lizzie Wheeler, is an Oxford-based printmaker and a technician at the Oxford Printmakers Co-operative.
What to bring:
- Apron / clothes that you don’t mind getting inky (the ink does not wash out)
- Packed lunch
- Water bottle
