About this event
Woodland Conservation Day in Epping Forest
In collaboration with Epping Forest Heritage Trust
Have you always been curious about nature and want to try hands-on habitat management?
Would you like a taste of what woodland conservation work is like?
Love the outdoors and want to improve your health and well-being in this beautiful ancient forest?
This day is for you!
We welcome people from all backgrounds and walks of life. Sessions will be led by our Conservation Officer with full approval and support from the City of London Corporation. Tools and training will be provided, so no experience is necessary.
What Will You Be Doing?
We work in smaller, sensitive areas of the forest, where careful attention is key. Whether it’s your first time or you’re more experienced, join us and make a real impact on Epping Forest and its biodiversity. Tasks may include:
- Coppicing young trees to let more light onto the forest floor
- Clearing dense holly growth to help re-establish plant and animal life
- Removing small hawthorn, silver birch, and other young trees to open up grasslands
- Using cut material to create habitat piles for small animals and reptiles
What to Bring
- Weatherproof clothing you don’t mind getting dirty
- Sturdy, weatherproof boots
- Snacks, water, and lunch
🍴 Food & Drink
- Packed lunch included (sandwiches, crisps) - TBC
- Beverages not included
🚫 Not Allowed

About Epping Forest Heritage Trust (EFHT)
EFHT is a charity and membership organisation with a mission to inspire people about Epping Forest, and to conserve and protect its biodiversity, culture, and heritage for generations to come. We run regular hands-on conservation sessions every week (usually Thursdays) and are now expanding to additional sessions thanks to funding from City Bridge Foundation.
We believe everyone should be able to enjoy Epping Forest responsibly and contribute to its conservation.
