'Words in Chalk' brings you an evening of brilliant spoken word poetry and music at the wonderful Metal Cultures Southend hub, Chalkwell Hall. We are honestly bringing you a great line up. Hosted by the awesome (as seen on SKY Arts/Channel 4) Hazel Mehmet, who is not only performing but introducing our award winning multi talented headliner in EMY P a recent 'Metal Culture Artist in Resident' recipient. We also have two other other outstanding featuring poets in Birmingham born London based Flo Poet Becksy Becks and local multi-slam champion Sadie Davidson. There are also a series of invited local guests performing as well as the local guitar maverick &amp; all round talent Daryl Tattoo. EMY PSpoken Word artist, poetry slam champion and musician born and raised in Essex. On a personal mission to raise awareness and destigmatize the negative viewpoints surrounding ADHD in adults. Emy’s honest writing approach and dark humour delves into the minds of everyday people as well as her own wired brain. She has recently been a featured poet on BBC Radio London and her piece "Volume Control" has been viewed by thousands and shared by leading professors in Neuroscience at Universities. - Taken from https://www.womenbeyondthebox.com/emyp/BECKSY BECKS'Becksy Becks is a self-proclaimed Bedroom Poet who is all about alliteration. Driven by her 3 life pillars of Laughter, Love and Literature, her humble poetry is a collection of thoughts that occasionally rhyme, and take you through a verity of personal experiences and a unique imagination. To best describe Becksy Becks is to call her a Dancer by (Day)Dream, Poet by Passion and Awesome by everything else. Daughter of a diplomat and youngest sister to four other siblings, Becksy Becks relocated from with her family form South Sudan to the UK at the age 3, and began reading and writing shortly after. She has published two collections – Tales from the Estate (2017) and the Poverty Guide Handbook (2019) – through Whisky and Beards Publishing, as well as recording a spoken word album – Council House and Silent (2018) – which was released through the Spoken Label. She recorded and produced Life Behind Bards (2020), a collaborative work with 5 other working class poets. Life Behind Bards was awarded the 2020 Saboteur Award in the Best Collaborative Work category.She has won several slams, including the Margate Bookie, You’re Bard! 9, the Kent Poetry Championship, and the Creative Thingy Whatsit online slam. His guitar wizardry spans genres including jazz harmony, ambient soundscapes, punk rock and experimentation. Improvisation is key element in creating his eclectic yet nostalgic and uniquely interesting sound palette. Playing and writing for a multitude of acts including Beckie Margaret, SOOTHS and the No Data Improvisation Orchestra. The venue itself is also situated in the beautiful surroundings of Chalkwell Park which is only ten minutes from the Chalkwell Park station which is on the C2C line, about 35 minutes from West Ham station.
