Poet Elizabeth Gibson performing new poetry and dramatic monologues as part of the Islington Mill Heritage Project

There were women in unions, of course, but I wasn’t one of them. I just tried to keep my family going…” For our next public Heritage event, the poet, performer and theatre-maker Elizabeth Gibson has produced new poetry and dramatic monologues in response to the evolution of factory workers’ rights from the birth of Islington Mill to the world of fast fashion today.Touching on the Weavers Union, Chartism and the collapse of the Mill, Liz’s new works personalise the upheavals of industrialism from imagined individual perspectives.Our event will include free food from our friends at Deli Lama, performances of the new poetic works by Elizabeth, performances of the new monologues by the actors Keziah Lockwood and Ross Thompson, in-conversation and reflections.All are welcome, please register for free tickets on Eventbrite if you are able.About the writerElizabeth Gibson is a poet, theatre maker and tutor from Wigan, currently based in Manchester. She has been the recipient of a Northern Writers' Award, and a DYCP grant from Arts Council England, and has worked with Dibby Theatre, Ergon Theatre, Manchester Literature Festival, Oldham Coliseum, Superbia, and Yorkshire Dance. Her poetry has been published in journals including Confingo, Lighthouse, Popshot, Magma, Queerlings, and Under the Radar. She writes about queer joy, city life, hiking and nature, mental health and body image. She is on Twitter and Instagram as @Grizonne. Accessibility InformationThis event is held in Unit 4 warehouse on the Regent Trading Estate. It is possible to enter the space without using a step.
