Most of us are comfortable 'networking' on social networking sites. Yet for many of us we’d rather go to the dentist than do ‘face to face’ networking. Miss out on networking and you could be missing out on opportunities. Networking provides an excellent way to raise your own profile, develop your connections, of course help others. This practical workshop will focus on what you need to do before, during and after an event to increase your networking success. [careers] Before the event

<li>Sort your game plan: What you need to know and do before going to an event.</li>
</ul>
During the event
<ul>
<li>The conversation stuff: know your elevator pitch, your “get/give”, your work and non-work conversations.</li>
<li>The awkward stuff: break into and exit conversations, and handle rejection</li>
<li>The confidence stuff: ask questions, keep the conversation going, use effective body language and enjoy it.</li>
</ul>
After the event Your follow up: What you need to do after the event. Plus… top tips to

<li>Assess and build your existing network and never be on the end of a bad handshake again</li>
</ul>

A certificate of attendance will be given to students who complete the workshop to be collected from Student Services later in the same week.
This workshop is only open to current London Met students. No public admittance.
Jennifer MacKay believes that communication confidence is key to professional success.
Before starting Jump in 2006, Jennifer gained valuable business experience as director of two communication based companies. In educational consultancy, she provided recruitment and training expertise to schools, businesses and governments in Europe and the Middle East. At the start of the internet boom, she co-founded a website that operates in four countries and featured in the Independent's "ten of the best". These experiences taught Jennifer how clear communication elevates vision, teamwork and profitability.
 
Jennifer holds a BA (English), B.Ed (English), and RSA DipTEFLA. She is a certified NLP practitioner; Margerison-McCann Team Management Profile accredited, holds a certification in facilitation and is an experienced coach. She is a member of Toastmasters International, the UK Speechwriter's Guild and the CIPD.
 
A regular contributor to the "communication debate" Jennifer is often asked to talk on communications at events and conferences. She has appeared on BBC Radio 4, BBC Five Live and in the Telegraph and Guardian newspapers.
 
Jennifer was awarded Trainer of the Year 2011 - 2012 by the SpeakersTrust.
