Working with Feathers

The Fan Museum is an accredited, independent museum dedicated entirely to the history, culture and craft of hand-held fans. The museum opened in 1991, in the heart of historic Royal Greenwich.The Fan Museum holds a world-renowned collection of fans and fan leaves which include the splendid Hélène Alexander Collection and further acquisitions, gifts and bequests which have been received since the museum opened to the public.

Based upon an account of a feather business which started in 1812 and celebrated its centenary in 1912, this talk gives a light-hearted overview of some of the more popular birds, their plumes and, of course, the fans which were fashioned from them.
