Date: 7th September 2022, 9:45am (registration) for 10am start. Talks finish at 1pm, followed by lunch.Venue: Room 313, Third Floor, School of Law, Queen Mary University London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS.This half day workshop explores the interconnection between physical appearance, self-identity and rights under equality law. For example, how – and why - does physical appearance impact our life experiences? To what extent does – and should - law engage with the problem of appearance discrimination? And can the need for clearly-defined legal terminology be reconciled with nuanced constructions of self-identity? The workshop will be of interest to academics, students, non—profit organisations working to support people with a visible difference, and anyone interested in the impact of appearance on lived experiences. It is organized by QMUL’s Centre for Research on Law, Equality and Diversity.
