About the Workshop

Learn this beautiful method of embroidery with textile artist Annie Lancaster. https://raggedyannie.art/

Begin your morning looking at some of the stunning examples of Goldwork Embroidery held in the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection Archive and then learn more about the techniques and materials used in this specialised and ancient form of needlework.

You will then use your new skills to create a beautiful Goldwork Angel – just right for Christmas. You will be amazed at the results of your new found technical ability.

This session is suitable for both beginners and those with more experience. You will be supported by the expert tuition of Annie, who is a well-regarded West Yorkshire based textile artist.

All the materials you will need are included in the kit you will receive, which is included in the ticket price. Please bring a 6" (or 8") embroidery hoop with you. If you have a seat frame that would be ideal.

Annie will have some hoops for sale if you don't have one available. There are also some hoops you can borrow for the day, if you forget to bring one.

About the Tutor - Annie Lancaster

Annie is a textile artist based in Elland, West Yorkshire. She is a designer-maker specialising in hand embroidery. Annie’s particular passion is goldwork, a technique which she has practised and taught for many years. She also runs the Halifax Minster Broderers, restoring and conserving ecclesiastical textiles, and designing and making new work.

Annie wrote for textile publications for a number of years and designed many kits for Anchor Threads/Coats Crafts.

Annie is inspired by historical work, and also the natural world, sketching and photographing plants, animals and insects while walking her dog. She uses these as inspiration when working her textile pieces back at her home studio.
