About this event

Digital image correlation (DIC) is now a well-established technique in experimental mechanics and has been used for the assessment of a variety of materials and structures. In 2021 University of Bristol acquired a MatchID system for DIC. The system has many unique features particularly in integrating experimental and simulated data. Dr Pascal Lava, the co-founder of MatchID who is currently managing director and CTO, is visiting the University. Hence, we have organised a short interactive workshop to take place during Pascal’s visit. Pascal is a mathematician with a PhD in nuclear physics from Ghent University. He is responsible for the design and development of the MatchID software with a special focus on the integration of DIC with FEA simulations to provide validated engineering designs. Pascal is author of more than 50 peer-reviewed journal papers, a fellow of the International DIC Society.

12.15 Advanced post-processing with MatchID

In this interactive session, a detailed overview will be presented on the advanced features of the MatchID engineering toolbox. In particular, attention will be paid to uncertainty quantification and validation aspects of finite element models – both theoretical and practical. It will be illustrated how synthetic images play a central role in the MatchID approach, and which information is required from an FEA simulation to generate these. A second part will tackle application development in the MatchID results viewer: potential pitfalls, solutions and a profound SDK overview. Moreover, we will give a quick glance on how custom material models can be incorporated into the standard workflow.
