Description

Aimed specifically at medical translators, this in-depth workshop will explore the areas of anaesthesia and pain management.

Our speakers are Dr Liz Bright, MBChB, FRCA, PGCE and her colleague at the West Suffolk Hospital, Clinical Nurse Specialist Dawn Pretty. Dr Bright has worked as a consultant anaesthetist for over ten years. Her interests are preoperative assessment, anaesthesia for major colorectal surgery and emergency surgery. She has been an examiner for the Royal College of Anaesthetists for the past five years. She has a major commitment to medical education and is a Tutor for the Graduate Course in Medicine at the University of Cambridge, involved in the recruitment, training and assessment of medical students. Dawn Pretty works in the Pain Clinic, which offers a wide range of pain management techniques.

Programme:

10:30 AM -- Arrivals and coffee/tea - Ground Floor Foyer of Social Sciences Building

11:00 AM -- Dr Bright's talk on Anaesthesia - Seminar Room A0.23, Foundation for Management Education (FME)

1:00 PM -- Lunch - Rootes Building

2:00 PM -- Dawn Pretty's talk on Pain Management - Seminar Room A0.23, Foundation for Management Education (FME)

3:30 PM -- Coffee/tea break

4:00 PM -- Practical translation session*

5:30 PM -- Finish

* During the practical translation session participants will be divided into language groups to work on the papers provided beforehand, with Dr Bright and Dawn Pretty circulating among the groups to offer expert advice.

Parking for conference delegates is free.

Plans for a post-workshop drink and/or evening meal will be arranged, with more details to follow for those who indicate on the Eventbrite booking confirmation that they wish to participate. (Please note that the evening meal is not included in the workshop price.)

Please also note that workshop participants should make their own arrangements regarding accommodation. Arden House, situated in the Westwood area of the campus some 20 minutes’ walk from the workshop venue, offers en-suite B&B rooms for conference participants for approximately £70 per night see https://bandb.warwick.ac.uk/. Bookings are subject to availability and best available rate at time of booking, so early booking is strongly advised (accommodation can only be booked from 6 weeks before the event).
