Working in partnership with Richmond Council, Barnes Common Limited (BCL) a local independent charity oversees the stewardship of Barnes Common, the Leg o' Mutton Local Nature Reserve and Vine Road Recreation Ground (affectionately known as Vine Road Park).Conservation has always been at the heart of all that we do and continues to be today. Whether we are preserving precious woodlands, creating important wildlife habitats, sowing seeds in our Community Growing area, introducing the community to the bats at Leg o' Mutton or engaging the community in our Lifelong Learning program, the Vine Road Project and Flood Resilience.

In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of pruning, including tools you’ll need and how to prune specific plants like roses & apple trees.

Growing Workshops

You are invited to join our free monthly workshops to learn more about growing food in harmony with nature. The sessions will introduce you to seasonal topics such as seed sowing, looking after seedlings, and seed saving.

Pruning is a really useful skill for growers to have. However, often people feel worried and nervous about how to begin. In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of pruning, including what tools you’ll need. We’ll look at how to prune specific plants, including apple trees, currant bushes and roses. If there are particular plants you’d like advice on, we’ll cover those in the session. We hope you’ll leave feeling confident enough to have a go at pruning yourself!All workshops will run on the 3rd Saturday of the month unless otherwise stated. The workshops will run from 10am to 11am, and you are welcome to stay afterwards to chat, look around the growing area and ask the workshop leader any questions. If you attend the training, you will also receive an emailed resource sheet afterwards with links to websites, videos and books you might want to use.This workshop will take place in the polytunnel in our growing area at Vine Road Rec. Hot drinks can be purchased from the Vine Road Community Café in the Pavilion with a 50% discount for attendees.

Please note, dogs will not be admitted at this event except guide dogs. All our events are dog free unless specifically mentioned in the event listing.Your ticket includes a 50% discount on a drink (hot or cold) at the Vine Road Community Cafe at the Pavilion.We will be taking photos and/or recording video at this event.
