The first Roots of Responsibility workshop will be held on 14–15 December 2019. The theme is Responsibility, Knowledge, and Belief. This event is jointly sponsored by Dr Alexander Greenberg’s Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship project, Belief in Philosophy and the Criminal Law.

The workshop will focus on the role of the concepts of knowledge and belief in attributions of responsibility. Questions about the role of knowledge and belief in our understanding of responsibility show up in a number of places in both philosophy and the criminal law. These include debates about how ignorance excuses responsibility, criminal negligence liability, wilful ignorance, responsibility for belief, consent, standards of proof, and witness testimony. This workshop will bring together researchers in philosophy and law to investigate what each discipline can learn from the other about these questions.

There is no registration fee for participation in this workshop, but space is limited. If you are interested in participating, please register here on Eventbrite. Please note that registering for the workshop does not guarantee you a place; further information will be sent to everyone who registers.

As the registration is free, not everyone who registers comes to the event. To make sure we have a full house, we allocate more tickets than there are places. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people. We cannot guarantee entry, and admission is on a first come, first served basis.
