Charcoal and gestural mark making... Spring Birds: Lindsay Norman
Charcoal is a fantastic medium to use to show gesture and evoke atmosphere within drawing.
Charcoal is a fantastic medium for showing gesture and evoking atmosphere in a drawing. Whether you are a complete beginner or an accomplished artist, working in Charcoal can unlock great results. In this workshop, Lindsay will talk to you about all aspects of charcoal and show different techniques and ways to capture spring birds through gestural mark making. This workshop is for complete beginners and also people wanting to learn about expressing themselves through their drawings.
Please bring along digital (if possible) bird images on iPads, etc.
About the Artist
Lindsay works in the beautiful Holme Valley from her studio in Holmfirth.
Trained initially in fashion design, Lindsay worked in the fashion industry and also in interiors in London. However, after meeting her sculptor husband, Lindsay decided it was time to return home to Yorkshire to start her own personal creative practice.
A constantly evolving process of creating atmosphere with a juxtaposition between realism and impressionism. Lindsay’s work is often offset with lots of space to suggest a narrative. Mark making is often an intuitive feeling with a strong sense of the importance of details for the viewer to connect with the subject. Often her animal forms show fragility, always beautiful and often suggesting movement, character and life.
Lindsay has various collectors of her originals and has also sold in the USA and Australia.
