Workshop:Biomorphic Pattern in Persian & Ottoman Art - Netheredge Sheffield
Learn to create beautiful biomorphic patterns in Persian and Ottoman art at our hands-on workshop and craft your own paint!
[NEW PATTERNS + GOLD PAINT MAKING]
In this one-day taster session, participants will immerse themselves in the traditional art form, learning how to transfer intricate patterns, craft paints using a glass muller, and work with gouache.
Suitable for all levels, this experience also provides a calming, therapeutic outlet through creativity.
All materials will be provided, so you can focus entirely on the art-making process.
Key Events Include:
- Painting Exploration using Gouache
- Traditional Techniques
- Hands-on Paint Making with a Glass Muller
- Pattern Transferring
By the end of the session, students will have completed a fully transferred and painted pattern design, incorporating gouache and imitation gold. Additionally, participants will take home a handmade sample of the paint they created on the day using the glass muller and paint-making technique.

About the artist:
Munise Emetullah Akhtar is an artist of Turkish Cypriot heritage, currently based in Sheffield. Specialising in traditional Islamic art forms, including gold illumination, biomorphic patterns, and Persian miniature painting, Munise blends ancient techniques with a contemporary touch. Her work is deeply inspired by her cultural roots, travels through Far-East Asia, and a passion for folktales and mysticism. Munise also teaches these intricate art forms in Sheffield Botanical Gardens & at the Millennium Gallery, sharing her love for traditional craftsmanship and the calming, meditative process of creation.
