About this event

Other

All new social sciences doctoral researchers from the Universities of Bradford, Hull, Leeds, Manchester Metropolitan, Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam and York are warmly invited to attend the 2025-26 WRDTP Welcome Event. This year’s event will be hosted by the University of York.

Please see the agenda on this page for information on the content of this event.

This is a compulsory event for WRDTP/ESRC-funded PGRs starting their PhD in the 2025-26 academic year. Those who have previously attended the Welcome Event (i.e. in October 2024, during their Master’s year) are not required to attend again. However, if this applies to you, please email training@wrdtp.ac.uk to confirm that you will not be attending.

This event is also open to:

1. All non-WRDTP/ESRC-funded social sciences PhD students from WRDTP partner universities;

2. WRDTP/ESRC-funded students undertaking their Master’s in 2025-26 (although attendance at this event is recommended in the first year of PhD study, i.e. in October 2026);

3. Supervisors of social sciences PhD students at WRDTP partner universities (including those funded by the WRDTP/ESRC and those with other funding arrangements).

When booking a place at this event, please note that you will need to specify which of the Interdisciplinary Pathways aligns most closely with your research. This corresponds to the session you will attend at 1.45pm.

Important:

1. This is an in-person event at the University of York (lunch and refreshments will be provided to suit a range of diets, including vegetarian, vegan and halal).

2. Spaces at this event are limited. We therefore ask that you only book a ticket if you are sure that you will be able to attend.

3. Bookings will close at 9am on Wednesday 22nd October.

4. When booking, we ask that you use your institutional (.ac.uk) email address and complete all fields of the booking form. Thank you for your understanding.
