Event Details

The way we remember a protest is almost as important as the act of protesting.  If a minor demonstration becomes the subject of a successful book or film, it will echo across the generations, whereas even major protest movements can be quickly forgotten.  But how should we remember protest?  And what is the best way to write about and represent these vital moments of political mobilisation?

Join two leading academics Dr Emile Chabal (The University of Edinburgh) and Dr Aditya Sarkar (The University of Warwick) for this interactive workshop on the history of protest.  You will learn about how historians like Eric Hobsbawm and EP Thompson tried to rewrite the history of protest – and you will get the chance to write your own history of a present day protest movement!
