Writing Craft: words made by hand
A welcoming 4-week writing workshop. Build skills in poetry, prose & spoken word. No experience needed.
Join artist and writer Alan Seiglow for a four-week writing workshop exploring the theme of crafting: the work of hands, tools, materials and the act of making, the sawing, snipping, tinkering, gluing, sewing, winding words together to make something unique, purposeful and perhaps even something beautiful.
Set within the working space of Shedders & Fixers, this course invites you to write in response to ideas of labour, making, repair, renovation, skill and creation, drawing parallels between physical craft and the craft of words.
Across four sessions, you’ll take part in guided writing exercises designed to strengthen your skills in poetry, prose and spoken word, while discovering your own unique writer’s voice.
Each session will gently build confidence and technique through:
- Practical, accessible writing prompts
- Exercises to develop imagery, voice and structure
- Sharing (optional) and supportive group discussion
- Time to experiment, play and reflect
This workshop is for 18+ from complete beginners and non-writers to those with some experience who want to reconnect with their practice. No previous writing experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to have a go.
You can expect a space that is:
Warm, friendly and non-judgemental
Supportive of all voices and backgrounds
Focused on process, not perfection. We are all a work in progress!
DATES: Thursday 5th, 12th & 19th February (please note no session on 26th Feb) & Thursday 5th March
