Writing for the Media Masterclasses
Event Information
Description
We are delighted to offer you an exclusive series of media masterclasses that will help you hone your writing and pitching skills for the mainstream print media. Run by Karla Adam, a correspondent for the Washington Post and LSE alumnus, the masterclasses will include guest speakers from national newspapers and industry experts. The last session, for instance, included guest speakers from the LSE press office, the Guardian and the New York Times.
There are two masterclasses that will cover topics ranging from story structure to writing to pitching. You will have the opportunity to have your own writing reviewed and go through real-life pitches from previous students who landed stories and figure out why they worked.
Former students have written stories or had their work featured in the Financial Times, Guardian, Economist, Telegraph, and Independent, among others. You can read a few samples here and here and here.
There is often an opportunity within the masterclasses to pitch directly to a commissioning editor. Places are limited, so apply early to avoid disappointment. Those selected for the masterclasses will need to fill out a brief questionnaire about their research.
