Writing for Wellbeing Workshop

Writing for Wellbeing Workshop

Our Yard at Clitterhouse FarmLondon, England
Saturday 9 May  •  11 AM - 12:30 PM
Overview

Join us for a nourishing Writing for Wellbeing workshop where poems and prompts help you to slow down, reflect and reset.

This workshop is about rediscovering our creativity and finding a calm, supportive space to reconnect with ourselves and find our voice. We will be drawing upon poems as an opportunity for self-reflection and self-compassion, and there will be guided writing invitations that will focus on writing freely, with a spirit of discovery and curiosity rather than judgement.

As Robert Henri puts it:

The object isn’t to make art,

It’s to be in that wonderful state

which makes art inevitable

What I love about these groups is that it’s an opportunity to come together, to connect more deeply with ourselves and with others, a chance to step away and unplug from the online world, and to be in a room with like-minded people. There is the opportunity to share some of our writing, but no expectation or pressure to do so, and all are welcome, no writing experience is necessary.

My name is Georgina Terry and my own background is as an integrative psychotherapist. I am an accredited member of the BACP and I have seven years’ experience working as a therapist and a group facilitator in low-cost settings, NHS hospitals, private practice, and at The School of Life, where I worked as an individual therapist and set up the Writing Therapy service.

I am most deeply informed by humanistic practices, and I’m passionate about the concept of ‘self-actualization’- the process of helping others to fulfil their potential, and find meaning, creativity and authenticity in their lives. Writing for Wellbeing workshops are therefore very close to my heart, as it's such a joy to be able to create a compassionate and creative space for people to come together and take a pause from their busy lives in order to focus on what truly matters to them and their wellbeing.

It can be hard to fully describe what Writing for Wellbeing is, so here’s a poem which I think captures the nourishing spirit of it- it isn’t about trying to create ‘good’ writing, but instead finding the opportunity to pause, reflect and listen to our own voice.

This one’s by Mary Oliver:

Praying

It doesn’t have to be

the blue iris, it could be

weeds in a vacant lot, or a few

small stones; just

pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try

to make them elaborate, this isn’t

a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which

another voice may speak

Hope to see you there, and do reach out if you have any questions. Contact details can be found on my website at www.georginaterrypsychotherapy.co.uk
