Looking for a space to get your next chapter written?

We’ll be in The Hideaway room, a comfortable space with just enough background bustle to help us feel alive as we write!

There’ll be unlimited teas and filter coffees on hand to keep you going, and if you fancy something stronger, you’re very welcome to pop to the bar and order a tipple. (Just no bringing in your own snacks or drinks, except water.)

We’re not teaching or offering critique during this session, though if that’s your thing, you might want to check out our membership community - The Ironclad Cauldron.

This retreat is simply about showing up for your writing, in good company.

Facilitated by our Co-founder (and writer in his own right), Andrew Allen, we’ll start with a quick hello and some intention setting before settling in. You’re free to work at your own pace and take breaks as you need; wander to the beach nearby, or just stretch your legs.

We'll likely have a check-in partway through to help you re-focused then, at the end of the afternoon, we’ll come back together briefly to check in and give each other a quiet round of applause for showing up.

Whether you’re working on a novel, script, PhD, memoir, CV or something that doesn’t even have a name yet, you’re very welcome.

Come write with us.*** PLEASE NOTE! ****

There are 7 steps supported by a handrail up into the Hideaway Room so this is not accessible for wheelchair users. We will plan to run more accessible retreats soon.

Make sure your laptop & device is as charged as it can be and consider bringing a spare portable battery.

There is wifi at the venue - sign up as a guest.

Frequently asked questions

Is the venue accessible?

There are 7 steps supported by a handrail leading into The Hideaway Room. It isn’t accessible for wheelchair users. We’re actively planning more accessible retreats, so please keep an eye out—we really want everyone to be able to join us.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just your writing tools—laptop, notebook, whatever you like to work with. Please make sure your devices are fully charged before you arrive, and if you have a portable battery pack, bring that too. Power sockets are limited, so best to come prepared.

Is there WiFi?

Yes—there’s WiFi at the venue - you will have to sign up as a guest.

What’s included in the ticket?

A spot in the cosy Hideaway room for the afternoon, unlimited teas and filter coffees, structured writing time with gentle facilitation, and the company of fellow writers. You can also order drinks from the bar but please don’t bring your own food & drinks.

Can I get a discount?

Yes! Members of our Creative Cauldron get 20% off this retreat, plus free access to our Virtual Writers’ Spaces every week. If you’re not a member yet, you can join here before you book this event: https://www.ironcladcreative.org/creative-cauldron

Do I need to be working on a particular kind of writing?

Not at all. Whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, academic writing, screenplays, poetry, or even a CV, you’re very welcome. The focus is on making space for your words—whatever they are.

Will there be any teaching or feedback?

Not during this session—it’s all about quiet writing time. If you’re looking for feedback, support, or more structured writing development, head to our membership community where we offer all of that and more.

Is it SILENT?

We will be writing in silence. However, the venue is a pub - so there might be external noise. The room we're in has a door, which we can shut. We will turn the music off. We recommend bringing along hearing loops or headphones. We have some noise cancelling headphones too - in case you forget.

Organised by

Ironclad was created in 2020 as a place for writers, artists and theatre-makers to find each other, learn about the business of making art, and develop their skills.

Founded by producer and writer couple Michelle Allen and Andrew Allen, after running the Cast Iron Theatre company for over seven years, Ironclad’s mission is to support, signpost and provide spaces where people can build community, write, make, discuss and learn.

We know how hard it is to make connections, network and learn about how to get paid for what you do.

We want to support all people and are especially interested in making sure that our work reaches people who currently have low incomes, or come from low income backgrounds.

We’re also neurodivergent and know that being creative and neurodivergent adds additional complexities and barriers to networking, making and putting your work into the world.

We have a mix of free events and some have a cost - which we try to keep as low as possible.

Members of our community - Creative Cauldron (£12 per month) get tons of our events for free - or at a 20% discount plus our own Discord server to chat to friends and peers on. Head to our website for details of how to join us! www.Ironcladcreative.org/creative-cauldron
