Poet-scholar Yousif M. Qasmiyeh enters into conversation with Dr Seth Ansizka and Professor Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh

Through a focus on ‘writing the camp archive’ via processes that privilege the everyday and the intimate, poet-scholar Yousif M. Qasmiyeh enters into conversation with Dr Seth Ansizka and Professor Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh, combining readings from his eponymous poetry collection with reflections on Baddawi Camp where he was born and raised, and where he continues to conduct different forms of research. The event is jointly convened by the UCL-Middle East Research Centre and the UCL-Refuge in a Moving World research network (both based in the UCL-Institute of Advanced Studies). Participants: Yousif M. Qasmiyeh is a poet and scholar whose doctoral research at the University of Oxford explores time and containment in Arabic and English ‘refugee writing’. He is the Creative Encounters editor of the Migration and Society journal; his collection, <a href="https://www.brokensleepbooks.com/product-page/yousif-m-qasmiyeh-writing-the-camp" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Writing the Camp</a> (Broken Sleep Books, 2021), was selected as The Poetry Society’s Recommendation for Spring 2021.Dr Seth Ansizka is the Mohamed S. Farsi-Polonsky Associate Professor of Jewish-Muslim Relations at UCL, and his research is focused on the international history of the Middle East in the 20th century.Professor Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh is Professor of Migration and Refugee Studies at UCL, where she directs the Refuge in a Moving World network and co-directs the Migration Research Unit.
