Writing workshop: In the beginning...

How do you write a story that will hook the reader from the first line?

In this workshop, we’ll look at some famous openings and think about why they might appeal to a reader, before working on the beginning of our own stories.

We’ll also consider some of the common mistakes writers make when writing beginnings and explore techniques to strengthen our storytelling.

This workshop is designed to help you edit a story you already have in draft, so please bring something along. It will be led by novelist and short story writer Amy Lord and will take place on Zoom. There are a limited number of places available for those on a low income.
