About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Hiking

GRADE: Beginner / Intermediate (due to some deep ascents, but not technically difficult), 16km/ 10 miles, 360m ascent, 5hr walking time, undulating footpaths and bridle ways.

This delightful hike passes us through the beautiful Kent countryside, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with stunning views across the stour valley and takes us through two of the prettiest villages in Kent, Wye and Chilham. Oranges, yellows, reds and greens make up the autumnal colour palette and this is where we can see them in all their glory! Kent is also known as "Garden of England" for its abundance of orchards and hop gardens. We climb out of Wye through Crundale and Warren Wood and walk through Chilmans Down where we have splendid views over the Stour Valley. We follow the Stour Valley Walk, passing through the neolithic long barrow of Julliberrie's grave and after crossing the footbridge over the River Stour we arrive at Chilham, a beutiful little village which has been used in many films. We follow the route to Chilham castle, a 17th century manor house built on the site of an ancient Castle. We finish our hike in a traditional pub with distinctive kentish architecture in the picturesque historic Chilham, before taking our trains back home.
