X-TERRA, The Eastern Piano Project

Rebetiko Carnival is a UK registered charity that was formed in 2016. The core of the charity is a small group of musicians thatover the past 10 yearshave dedicated their timeplaying for people less fortunate than themselves in hospitals, hospices, special needs residences, communal centers, and prisons, using Greek music as a therapy for those who need it.Rebetiko is a rich synthesis of music from all over Greece,  Asia Minor, Ottoman modal art music, Byzantine chant, and cafe music. Rebetiko songs convey the pain and suffering of the people at the time, through war, poverty, and incarceration, as well as other deeply felt sentiments and aspects of everyday life.

This is a provoking retelling of old stories, removed from their supposed natural places into the undefined but real world of the narrators, in the present tense. In X-Terra the present enslaves the past. He lived for years in the ‘erstwhile’, queen of Cosmopolitanism, Thessaloniki. He has lived, studied and worked as a musician and musicologist in Greece, Bulgaria, England, Italy and Switzerland. Ordoulidis writes music for solo piano, the theatre and popular orchestra. He seeks ways to re-read, understand and negotiate the multifarious musical idioms of a large geographical span, a musical ecumene: Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa. He creates bands with students from the university at which he teaches, often constructing new frameworks, environments and aesthetical cloaks, always in the present tense. He has given performances in Taiwan, Iceland, Germany, England, Luxemburg, Turkey, France, Switzerland. Akis Pitsanis – Akis was born in Northwest Greece, Kastoria. At the early age of 7 he had the first contact with music experience. During the teenage years he created his own rock/metal bands playing the drums and later the guitar. The band named "TELMA" recorded one album with the synonym title. He studied luthiery in Kastoria and musicology in the university of Arta (department of popular and traditional music). He is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and performer of rebetiko/traditional music since 2003. He teaches vocal technique, violin and guitar. He has also been a teacher of cretan lyra in the music highschool in Chania-Crete during the year 2020-2021. He has collaborated on several albums of important artists in Greek discography.
