Welcome by Professor David Wilkinson and introduction to Gillian Lacey-Solimar - the only female voice and YOPD member of the surprise BBC hit podcast Movers and Shakers - and Gaynor Edwards, founder and patron of UK-registered charity Spotlight YOPD. Gillian and Gaynor will be co-hosts for YOPD 23.

YOPD’23 - Handling the topics other Parkinson’s conferences don’t touch!

Following on from last Saturday’s Movers and Shakers’ podcast which focused on the voice and how it can be impacted by PD (and DBS), Gillian talks a little about her own experience before introducing a short film made by her Movers & Shakers co-star and patron of PCIT Mark Mardell. Made exclusively for today's event, Mark's film includes an interview with internationally-respected Parkinson's specialist speech and language therapist John Dean. Pre-recorded video contributions illustrating vocal festination and PD stammer are also included - with thanks to Phil Bungay and Jordan Webb of the YOPD community.

When YOPDers meet for the first time, inevitably they ask each other, “what are you on?” For the first decade of people’s so-called 'journey', Parkinson's therapy is almost exclusively a drug regime. The choice tends to be limited – Levodopa, Dopamine Agonists or a cocktail of the two with the addition of an MAOB inhibitor or perhaps an anti-depressant. This panel discussion includes: David Ashford Jones - a trustee of Cure Parkinson's, Max Tomlinson - a naturopathic functional medicine practitioner and Dr Mayur Bodani – a consultant neuropsychiatrist and expert in cannabis medicine. Screening of Sex, Lies and Parkinson's - mini-documentary featuring Vicki Dillon, YOPD patient advocate.

Dev and Doc is a new podcast that looks at how healthcare could benefit from Artificial Intelligence. Josh Au Yeung is a Neurology Registrar and Zeljko Kraljevic is a Research Fellow in Health Informatics, both at King's College London. They are taking time out to enjoy some real-time with the YOPD community here in Canterbury.

Krish talks about his own Everest - which was to literally trek to Everest base camp earlier this year. Maybe that makes a strong case for cold therapy too? Gillian's feat was from the creative selection box; she produced a musical, writing all the song lyrics and scripting the dialogue before casting it and taking it to the Edinburgh Fringe.

For a long while, many put the prodromal symptoms of PD down to stress. We now know that there is a significant correlation between trauma and chronic conditions. Aaron Whalen is a Somatic Therapist and as such takes a holistic mind and body approach to addressing the impact of trauma on an individual. With additional contribution from Dr Neil Bindemann, Executive Director of the Person-Centred Neurosciences Society & the Primary Care and Community Neurology Society.
