Yorkshire Three Peaks Guided Trail Run

Join Finding The Fells for a grand day out in the Yorkshire Dales. This challenging route is one of England's best known day hikes typically taking people 10-12 hours. To run the route we expect to do it around 6-8 hours (though this isn't a target, there's no pressure).

Ideal for: runners with some experience on trails and distances above 18 miles/30km (this event isn't aimed at beginner runners). Pace will be sociable with plenty of walking up steep inclines and pausing to admire the views.

Approx Distance & Elevation: 23 miles /5,200ft

Terrain: Mostly well defined paths, some grassy/muddy fields, flagstones, gravel, rocky ground. There is a short easy scramble via the main path onto Pen-y-Ghent but nothing too technical.

Required kit: off road/grippy running shoes essential, along with buff, waterproof jacket, snacks, at least 1 litre of water and any personal meds and running pack. Extra long sleeve layer and hat/gloves advised. See https://findingthefells.co.uk/requirements-equipment/ for more details.

Route description:
Starting at the Yorkshire Dales national car park (pay & display) near the Crown Hotel, we'll head south to Saint Oswald's Church then head east as we head uphill to our first summit of Pen-y-Ghent (694m). After a few mandatory photos at the trig point we'll descend westwards on the Pennine Way then north west towards Lodge Hall for an undulating/flatter (relative to the 3 big climbs) 10km towards Ribblehead Viaduct. We'll run alongside the viaduct skirting arond the top of Force Gill waterfall onto Whernside (736m). From here we'll head southwards into the valley of Chapel-le-Dale and pass through some limestone pavement on to a very steep climb up to Ingleborough (723m). After this third and final climb we've then got a steady downhill along gravely paths and grassy fields back to the start.

Meeting at 8:45pm for 9:00am start – Meeting at the Yorkshire Dales national pay & display car park approx 500m east of Horton-in-Ribblesdale train station. What 3 Words location: ///cherry.jumbo.parrot
