Event description
Hands-on habitat management work at Nils Quarry.

About this event

In the 19th century, Nils Hill was a working quarry and later a landfill site. Abandoned, the site has become colonised by trees and scrub but it needs a helping hand to maximise benefit for wildlife.

Today's session will involve grassland conservation work in the open area of the quarry tackling overgrown scrub and small trees. Some of the hard to reach and difficult to manage areas will have been cut by the Rights of Way team so they'll be plenty of brash waiting to be burned!

Young Rangers are asked to bring their own packed lunch and provisions for the day and to come prepared in warm, waterproof outdoor clothing and sensible footwear.

Participants will have the opportunity to gain a certificate in Grassland Conservation as part of the AQA Unit Award Scheme.

*First-time attendees are asked to complete the Young Rangers registration form here. Parents/carers may attend in support of children with additional needs*
