Overview

Are you interested in learning more about nature and wildlife conservation? Join our free Young Voices workshops for 14-18 year olds.

Our Young Voices Workshops aim to empower local young people aged 14–18 with the skills, knowledge and opportunity to stand up for the environment and make a difference. Come along and join a community of like-minded individuals with an interest in wildlife conservation and nature.

Dorset Wildlife Trust are hosting a regular monthly youth programme of activities, giving young people the opportunity to learn new conservation skills, experience nature and take practical action for the environment.

Activities across different sessions may include:

  • Wildlife identification
  • Wellbeing/nature journalling
  • Guided walks

Each session will last for 2 hours.

Please ensure you dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear.

Only those booked onto the session can attend.

Please note these are drop off sessions, no accompanying parents please.

If the young person attending the workshop is under 18 years of age a parent will be required to complete a parent consent form.

Sunday 11th January 2026 Workshop Overview - Wonders of Migration

Many animals migrate, from whales and wildebeest to birds and butterflies. This session will focus on exploring what migration is, why species migrate and discuss what challenges animals may face whilst they are travelling. We will also go outside and see if we can see any migratory birds that are only here during the winter.

Sunday 8th February 2026 Workshop Overview - Bird Surveying

Join us for an exciting hands-on session where you’ll learn how to identify birds by sight and sound, discover the importance of monitoring bird populations and help us carry out a bird survey from the Wild Chesil Centre. Whether you’re into animals, the environment, or just love being outdoors, this event will show you how your curiosity can help inform our knowledge of bird populations.

Sunday 8th March 2026 Workshop Overview - Marine Litter

Join us for an action-packed morning uncovering the hidden story of marine litter – where it comes from, how it affects ocean life, and what we can do to stop it. During this session, you’ll learn how different types of litter impact marine ecosystems, discover surprising facts about plastics and microplastics up and head out for a community litter pick, working together to clean up the shoreline and collect data on what we find.

Sunday 12th April 2026 Workshop Overview - The Intertidal Shore

Step into a world that appears twice a day and disappears twice a day – the intertidal zone! This is the area of coastline that’s covered by the sea at high tide and revealed at low tide, creating one of the most exciting and unusual habitats in the UK. Join us for a hands-on shore exploration where you’ll discover some of the UK’s seaweeds and hidden creatures along Hamm Beach.
