Overview

Want to find out how you tell the difference between and wrasse and a bass? Then join us for an interactive workshop of UK fish identication

Join Cornwall Wildlife Trust for this great opportunity to expand your knowledge and skills of fish identification.

Led by the Enviroment Agency's Jenny Kent, an experienced and dedicated Seasearch volunteer and fish enthusiast!

This workshop is perfect for keen Shoresearchers, Seasearchers and Your Shore group members wanting to learn tips and tricks for species identification that will enable you to improve your contribution to citizen science data.

The day will include a mixture of classroom and practical elements including a snorkel.

For those who would don;t wnat to snorkel, we will also be exploring the rockpools for intertidal fish species.

Morning classroom session-

  • Fish anatomy
  • Taxonomic groups
  • Tips and tricks for ID

Practical session at low tide-

  • Option to snorkel or rockpool

LUNCH

Afternoon beach classroom session-

  • Identification of species from the practical

Cost - This course is £10 per person but thanks to funding for Your Shore this training is FREE for YOUR SHORE group members using a PROMO CODE*

Location: We will be based at The Millpool Centre in Looe with a snorkel/rockpool on Hannafore beach (dependant on weather conditions).

To take part in the snorkels you will need to bring your own equipment.


To snorkel with us you will need to meet the following requirements:

You must;

  • Be aged 16 or over
  • Be a confident sea swimmer easily able to swim 100m in open sea conditions.
  • be experienced and comfortable snorkelling or freediving in UK conditions.
  • You must have your own snorkelling kit - warm full length wetsuit (should be at least 5mm thick), fins, mask, hood, weights (optional) etc.
  • Be prepared to complete a self certification health declaration
  • Be fit on the day and fully able to participate

We reserve the right to refuse participation if you don't meet these requirements. We can easily arrange a refund for you.
