Youth Hub 2016 - EIFF

Established in 1947, the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is the longest continually running film festival in the world, renowned for discovering and promoting the very best in international cinema.As part of EIFF’s Education & Learning programme, Youth Hub is a special programme of events aimed at young people aged 16-26 passionate about cinema and interested in working or studying in this creative industry.

Explore the world of directing with three very different EIFF directors: US director Brady Corbet with his period psychodrama <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/films/2016/the-childhood-of-a-leader" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Childhood of a Leader</A>; Steve Barker, director of action-packed Zombie horror feature <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/films/2016/the-rezort" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Rezort</A>; and director Elite Zexer with her engrossing depiction of life in a Bedouin village in <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/films/2016/sand-storm" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sand Storm</A>.

Join costume designer Ali Mitchell (The Rezort, Red Tails, Outpost) and director Steve Barker (The Rezort, Outpost) discussing the role of the costume designer and the relationship between costume designer, production designer and director in achieving the perfect look for a film.

Sunday, 19 June 2016, 5.30pm - 6.30pm 
Join us in discussion with Pikadero editor Karel Dolak and director Ben Sharrock to learn about the relationship between the editor and the director, find out how different editing techniques determine the pace of a film, and get advice on how to break into the industry.

<H2>10-4-20: A Directing Masterclass with Jim Gillespie</H2>
Monday, 20 June 2016, 3.30pm - 4.30pm
We are delighted to welcome director Jim Gillespie (Take Down, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Eye See You) to Youth Hub to discuss his career and give us a special insight into the filmmaking process. This session includes two short screenings: Jim’s breakthrough short film, Joyride, which premiered at EIFF in 1995, and also a ten-minute sequence from this year’s feature Take Down, and a discussion of the different processes that went into making them – both ten minutes long, filmed over four days, separated by twenty years…

Do you have an idea for a short documentary? Fancy discussing it with some experts? Come along to a session with the Scottish Documentary Institute and meet the filmmakers behind Bridging the Gap shorts. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet both professional and aspiring documentary filmmakers, share ideas and get some feedback.

Monday, 20 June 2016, 6pm - 7pm 
Enter the magical and transformative world of film make up design! SFX make up artist Stephanie Smith (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jupiter Ascending, Snow White and the Huntsmen) will join us fresh off the set of her latest film to give us an insight into her work and career and demonstrate a range of make up prosthetics.

This is a chance to hear from acting legend Clancy Brown, who has been visiting EIFF for the 30th Anniversary screening of Highlander, and as part of the Michael Powell Jury.

At the end of the session, there will be the opportunity to mingle and network and find out about how to become a part of EIFF 2017.
